Positive Discipline Procedures
The staff for the summer program will utilize Positive Discipline Strategies when dealing with difficult behavior. On daily excursions from the center, the staff will give the children three chances to correct their behavior. If the issue is not resolved the child will remain at the center and not attend the activities on the next scheduled day that the child attends, unless the parent is able to volunteer on that field trip. To be able to experience and enjoy the many activities of the summer as well as keeping the activities safe, children must be on their best behavior and follow the guidelines set forth by the center, their teachers, and the facilities we visit.
Children need to wear comfortable walking shoes and appropriate clothes for the activity scheduled for that particular day. They also need to bring a back pack with a swim suit, towel, and any personal items they may need.
Children will receive a free Summer Camp t-shirt. T-shirts will be kept at the center, washed, and worn on every field trip. You can select a T-shirt size for your child at the time of enrollment.
Lunch & Snacks on the Go
Children may bring their own lunch, snacks, or have what we are offering. Monday through Thursday, we will be offering lunch meat, or peanut butter sandwiches with fruit or veggies for the children to pack in their lunches while on field trips. Lunch will typically be at a park close to the daily field trip or the center, weather permitting. Although the lunches will be kept in coolers, if you are packing your child’s lunch please remember to pack items that won’t spoil. Drinks offered for lunch and snacks will be juice, milk and plenty of water. Each Friday, the children can enjoy the lunch offered at the center, menus are located in the School Age classroom.
We welcome and appreciate parent volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering for one or more field trips please sign up at the front desk, or talk with any of the Summer staff.
Transportation will be provided for all field trips and is included in the tuition fee. Children are not allowed to be dropped off or picked up from any location other than the center.
We will swim on Fridays at the Union Pool, and have park water days throughout the week. Please reference the calendar and wipe board in classroom for specific water days. In addition to our staff, certified life guards will be on duty while the children swim. If your child is unable to swim then you need to provide a life jacket that must be worn during the entire swim time.
Mentoring brings the magic of reading & learning to both school age and pre-school children. Throughout the summer we will assign each school age child a preschool buddy to read to or play a game with once a week. The school age children will find our mentoring program both fun and gratifying.
There will be a permission slip for parents to sign for the teachers to administer sunscreen. The center will supply sunscreen with a protection factor of 30. If your child needs a special type of sunscreen please label the sunscreen with your child’s name. We will keep the sunscreen at the center and apply when needed. Per State regulations, sunscreen is considered a medication and must be kept in a designated area at all times. Teachers will assist in administering the sunscreen.
